Rain Room

12 Oct

Normally I’m not a fan of installation art- leaving a room empty on purpose, having a few lights go on and off, and calling that art? No thanks.  The rain room installation however? Totally awesome.

You approach a room where it’s pouring rain.  As soon as you step inside, high-tech cameras ensure the rain stops around you.  So you can walk through the pouring rain but you stay totally dry- the water rains around your body.

It has to be seen to be believed, so click on the picture below to check out the video.  I would be scared to take that first step into the rain, and it looks like the people in the video also can’t believe they won’t get wet.

So cool.  If you’re in the UK, go check it out!

Hilarious Photo Project

26 Sep

Someone told me yesterday that Christmas is only 90 days away.  Insane!  Fortunately for you, I already have the perfect stocking stuffer- this World’s Best Father 2013 Calendar, aka funniest calendar I’ve seen in a while.

Dave Engledow started taking creative pictures with his daughter Alice Bee when she was born.  What started out as a whim quickly turned into an ongoing photo project.  Dave portrays a parody of the father he would never want to become–“distracted, self-absorbed, neglectful, clueless, or even occasionally overbearing.”

Here are some of my favorite pictures-

There are over 50 pictures in the series, so definitely check out his facebook page if you want to see more.  Which picture was your favorite?

Fish Tank Bed- Do Want!

20 Sep

I have a love/hate relationship with fish.  I think sharks are fascinating, I can watch Shark Week all day every day!  But I hate little fish that dart around unpredictably in the water when I’m trying to swim- they creep me out.  The thought of one brushing against me literally makes me skin crawl.  It’s a weird phobia!

Looking at fish though, is a whole other story.  I love going to aquariums and seeing all the sea life.  I think it’s amazing how many different types of fish there are; some of them are so brightly colored they almost look fake. And there’s something very relaxing about aquariums, the water is mesmerizing.  Which is why I think this bed would be awesome:

650 Gallon Aquarium Bed

Seriously, how cool is that?  Who needs to count sheep when you can count fish, literally.  This bed is filled with 650 gallons of water and can be yours for the small sum of $11,500 (not including fish!).

Buy it immediately and watch the sleepover requests start rolling in!

The Bridge to Nowhere

17 Jul

Every once in a while an architect decides to get crazy and build a bridge to nowhere-

This is actually an optical illusion, but it’s still pretty cool!  This bridge is in Norway and connects the mainland to an island.

If you view it from another angle, you can see it doesn’t just end abruptly-

I bet people still slow down when approaching it head on though!

The Real Starry Night

12 Jul

I feel like almost everyone is familiar with Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” right?

Have you ever wondered what inspired it?  Alex Ruiz has created a digital painting that imagines what Van Gogh might have seen when he was creating his iconic painting.   Isn’t it beautiful?

If you’re interested in buying a print, they’re available here.

Do Want- Secret Passage to Narnia

28 Jun

When I was little I used to beg my parents to build a house so we could design it ourselves- and so I could have a secret passage installed with secret rooms.  I’m pretty sure I wanted it to have a kitchen (snacks!), a library (nerd alert!), and a living room.  This is even cooler though, and a dad legit built this for his daughter:

Wardrobe hidden Narnia themed room 3 Wardrobe with a hidden Narnia themed room inside

I’m so jealous!  Isn’t this the coolest thing ever?

The Most Beautiful Data You’ll Ever See

27 Jun

Has anyone seen the show “America Revealed” on PBS?  It explores the patterns and rhythms that make America work and displays complicated data flows in the most beautiful ways.

This is what America’s internet access looks like:

Websites as Dresses

27 Apr

Have you ever wished you could wear your favorite website?  Um…yeah me neither.  But designer Victor Faretina apparently did and so created conceptual dresses for some of the big ones- Google, Twitter, Yahoo, etc.

They’re pretty cool!

Thoughts?  I think the Wikipedia and the Google dresses are my favorite.  You can see more dresses (YouTube, Mega Upload, Twitter, etc) if you click here.  Which one do you like best?  Would you ever actually wear these?
