Real Life House from “Up”

26 Jul

Have you seen the movie “Up”?  I thought it was very sweet (the beginning makes you cry!) and such an awesome adventure story. Definitely destined to be a Disney classic!

Some ambitious people in Utah have decided to build an exact life-size replica of the house from the movie.  It looks amazing!

They stayed true to every detail, even the interior decorations:

You can see more pictures here. The house will be open to the public July 29-August 14th for the Salt Lake Parade of Homes.  Afterwards, it’ll be up for sale.  Road trip to Utah anyone?

Pizza Hut Happy Dance

20 Jul

Pizza Hut makes the best breadsticks, period.  This is coming from someone who has driven to another state to get some so you KNOW I’m serious!

I came across this video from a Pizza Hut in India and it made my day.  Check out the awesome dance the servers bust out:

Watching it makes me almost as happy as eating those breadsticks does!

Type Like a Hacker

20 Jul

Ever wish you could type like a hacker?

I’m talking super fast keystrokes, scrolling code, and a look of intense concentration.  Think Penelope Garcia in Criminal Minds-

or Ryan Phillippe as Milo in the movie Antitrust-

Well, now your dream can become a reality!  This site lets you type like a hacker, allowing you to basically mash letters on the keyboard to come up with cool looking code like this:

Easy Banana Bread

19 Jul

If you’re like me, you have some overripe bananas lying around the kitchen.  What can I say?  Those things ripen faster than I can eat them!  The good news is, you can use them to make banana bread.  In less than 15 minutes you can have a loaf in the oven….

Easy Banana Bread

2-3 very ripe bananas
1/2 stick of butter (softened)
2 eggs
2/3 cup sugar
1 1/3 cup flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium sized bowl, mash the bananas.  You want to mash them as much as possible so there are no big chunks in your bread.  Add the butter, sugar, and eggs and mix everything together.

In another bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and cinnamon.  Add this mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until everything is combined.

Pour the dough into a greased pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 30-50 minutes.

This bread is so delicious…I especially like to eat it for breakfast with a little butter.  It’s pretty much heaven!

Celebrity Salt Portraits

18 Jul

Would you believe this picture is made entirely out of salt?

Me either but it is!  Bashir Sultani is the man behind this picture, as well as many other celebrity portraits made entirely out of salt.  I wonder how he discovered this talent?  Regardless, it’s pretty cool!

Check out the video to watch him create the picture step by step:

His Youtube channel shows him “painting” lots of other celebrities including Michael Jackson and Charlie Sheen. Check them out and let me know which one is your favorite!

European Dreaming

15 Jul

Happy Friday!  It’s such a nice day out and though I’m stuck at work, I can’t help but daydream about traveling somewhere exciting.  Imagine…drinking red wine in a plaza in Barcelona.  Or nibbling on cheese in a cafe in Paris.  If only!

If your imagination needs help, check out these videos that were made for EF Language Schools.  Each one features a different city and encourages you to “live the language.”  I think they’re beautiful and really highlight the culture of each city.  The Paris one is my favorite:

Doesn’t it make you want to book a flight instantly?  I also really like the Beijing one.  Those Asian kids are adorable!

Check out the other two videos for Barcelona and London here.  I wish they would make one for Italy and Greece as well!

What’s your dream vacation destination?

Steve Buscemi dress…and more

14 Jul

Steve Buscemi is a good actor but he may soon be known for more than his movies.  Check out this fashionable dress featuring his face on front AND back.  And it’s only $100.  What a steal!

But seriously, I would love to see this dress at a party. Talk about an ice breaker!

I also ran across this Tumblr- Chicks with Steve Buscemi’s Eyes.  It cannot be unseen so prepare yourself….

It’s weird how much of a difference swapping out the eyes can make!  To see more vaguely creepy pics, check out the Tumblr here.

Sam Adams Brewery Tour

13 Jul

I’ve lived in Boston for 4 years now but until last weekend, I had never been to the Sam Adams Brewery.  I know, crazy right?  To be fair, it’s in Jamaica Plain, a neighborhood I don’t venture into very often (aka ever).  The brewery was easy to get to on the Orange Line though, which pleasantly surprised me.

We arrived to a long line of people waiting for tickets.  The tours are free (although they suggest donating a few dollars to charity) and quite popular.

We ended up waiting for about 45 minutes for our tour to start.  In the meantime, there was a gift shop you could browse in. I wasn’t feeling too inspired to shop though because it was about 100 degrees in the building.  Add to that a crowd of people bumping into you and it was pretty touch and go there for a while.  Time to invest in some a/c Sam!

Please note the solitary fan, as well as that man’s stylish stars and strips hat.  Woo ‘MERICA!

At last, it was go time.  Our guide was Josh and he was awesome.  Funny, knowledgeable, and energetic, he was able to keep the group pumped up even though it was hot and there were a lot of us.  Promising us free beer probably helped!

The tour itself was short but pretty cool.  We tasted some of the ingredients they use to make Sam Adams, and also got to see where the beer is actually brewed.

These hold a lot of beer!

The end of the tour is obviously the best part- the tasting room!  We got to try three varieties of Sam Adams and also learned how to properly taste them.

After the tour was over, we discovered the brewery runs a free party trolley to Doyle’s bar!  The words free and party pretty much sold me.  Plus, there was a disco ball!

At Doyle’s, you get a free Sam Adams pint glass if you order a Sam Adams beer.   So obviously that’s what we did.

I had a great time, and would recommend you pay Sam Adams a visit!  We were pretty much the only non-tourists there, but it was still a lot of fun.  And you can’t beat free beer!

Chocolate Peanut Butter No Bake Cookies

12 Jul

It’s 90 degrees here in Boston and humid to boot.  When it gets this hot, the last thing you want to do is turn the oven on and make it even hotter.  But what if you’re still craving dessert? That’s where no bake cookies come in!

They’re quick, easy, and require no oven time.  One of my favorite flavor combos is chocolate and peanut butter so I really like these cookies.

Chocolate Peanut Butter No-Bake Cookies

3 cups quick oats
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/2 cup milk
1 stick of butter
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Put the butter, sugar, milk, and cocoa powder into a saucepan.  Bring to a roiling boil (you will see big bubbles) and then let the mixture boil for 1 minute

I tried to capture the bubbles-

Remove the mixture from heat.  Stir in the peanut butter and the vanilla until smooth.  Then, stir in the oats.

Line your cookie sheets with wax paper, then drop tablespoons of the mixture onto the sheets.  Let cool until set.

Once the cookies cool, you are left with a chocolate peanut-buttery snack that is hard to resist.  They may not be the prettiest looking cookies ever, but they sure taste good!

Starbucks Spelling Errors

8 Jul

Happy Friday ZTM readers!  If you’re like me, you started the day off with a cup of coffee.  Have you ever gone to Starbucks and had them misspell your name?  It happens a lot and now there’s a Tumblr full of the funniest errors.

Here are my favorites:

Instead of Rory….

Instead of Bruce, they heard…

And instead of Christian, they wrote
