MBTA Personality Quiz

26 Jan

Happy Thursday!

I’m sure the burning question you all have today is: “if I were a T line, which one would I be?”  Am I right?  Well it’s your lucky day because this quiz will answer that for you!

I got the Green Line which evidently means I’m “fun and outgoing.”  Woo hoo!  The best part of the description is ” Even if you are usually running late, you are needed among your friends—you bring both eccentricity and entertainment to the group”  Anyone who has ridden the Green Line during rush hour knows just how eccentric it can be- and that’s putting it nicely!

Which T line are you?

Sam Adams Brewery Tour

13 Jul

I’ve lived in Boston for 4 years now but until last weekend, I had never been to the Sam Adams Brewery.  I know, crazy right?  To be fair, it’s in Jamaica Plain, a neighborhood I don’t venture into very often (aka ever).  The brewery was easy to get to on the Orange Line though, which pleasantly surprised me.

We arrived to a long line of people waiting for tickets.  The tours are free (although they suggest donating a few dollars to charity) and quite popular.

We ended up waiting for about 45 minutes for our tour to start.  In the meantime, there was a gift shop you could browse in. I wasn’t feeling too inspired to shop though because it was about 100 degrees in the building.  Add to that a crowd of people bumping into you and it was pretty touch and go there for a while.  Time to invest in some a/c Sam!

Please note the solitary fan, as well as that man’s stylish stars and strips hat.  Woo ‘MERICA!

At last, it was go time.  Our guide was Josh and he was awesome.  Funny, knowledgeable, and energetic, he was able to keep the group pumped up even though it was hot and there were a lot of us.  Promising us free beer probably helped!

The tour itself was short but pretty cool.  We tasted some of the ingredients they use to make Sam Adams, and also got to see where the beer is actually brewed.

These hold a lot of beer!

The end of the tour is obviously the best part- the tasting room!  We got to try three varieties of Sam Adams and also learned how to properly taste them.

After the tour was over, we discovered the brewery runs a free party trolley to Doyle’s bar!  The words free and party pretty much sold me.  Plus, there was a disco ball!

At Doyle’s, you get a free Sam Adams pint glass if you order a Sam Adams beer.   So obviously that’s what we did.

I had a great time, and would recommend you pay Sam Adams a visit!  We were pretty much the only non-tourists there, but it was still a lot of fun.  And you can’t beat free beer!

I’m on a Boat!

5 Jul

Did you have a good Fourth of July weekend?  I had a blast, but I honestly think it will take me all week to recover from all the parties, food, and sparkling cocktails!

One of the best things about living in Boston is the ocean.  I don’t get to go out on the water as often as I’d like to, but I was lucky enough to go on a (free!) boat cruise this weekend.  The Spirit of Boston is one seriously nice boat-

We cruised around the harbor for two hours and the weather was perfect.  There were lots of other boats out on the water.

I love the view of Boston from the harbor.

After the cruise, my boyfriend and I wandered over to Fan Pier where the Extreme Sailing Series was taking place.  They had a whole village set up with food and drink tents, music, giveaways, and more.  It was cool to see all the boats- they travel all over the world but Boston was their only U.S. stop.

At the sailing village, we saw Mayor Thomas Menino AND got to meet A.J. Burnett.  I’ve watched him on the news pretty much every day since I moved to Boston so it was a little surreal to meet him in person!  He was very gracious and let us take some pictures.  Note how patriotic we are in our red, white, and blue.

After the sailing series, my boyfriend and I finished off the evening with dinner and drinks at Jerry Remy’s by the water.  The food was a little pricey ($14 for a salad) but tasty.  The burger came on fried dough.  ’nuff said!

In Boston one thing has dominated the headlines lately- the Bruins’ quest for the Stanley Cup.  Even people who never watch hockey are tuning in to see if history is made- the B’s haven’t won since 1972 and the Vancouver Canucks have never won so both teams want it badly.

Tonight is Game 7 of what’s been a crazy series full of goals, fights, and intense emotions.  I’m pretty sure Boston is going to erupt in riots whether they win or lose, but I’m really hoping the Bruins can bring home the Cup!

Have you ever wondered what Bruins player you’re most like?  Take this test to find out!  Apparently I’m like Shawn Thorton. I must say, the man knows how to grow an awesome ‘stache-

Are you planning on watching the game tonight?  Who are you cheering for?

Hey There!

Congratulations- you’ve stumbled upon Zoltar Told Me, a blog that will change your life.  Or… entertain you for a few minutes while you’re at work.  You’re probably wondering is it 5:30pm yet who are you?   Well, I’m in my twenties and live in Boston, though I’m originally from Wisconsin (woo hoo Midwest!).

I’m obsessed with redheads and puppies, believe red wine is the key to a long life, and love theme parties.   I’ve also started baking lately despite having the world’s tiniest kitchen.   So get excited for some sweet recipes.

Here’s hoping I see you again soon!
